caseymalone: I love Kickstarter. I think that’s clear to people who know me by now? I love it. There’s a dude named Brad Muir and he works at Double Fine and I love the games they make, so much. But before Kickstarter, every time a Double Fine game came out I was a little worried it would be their last,…
Last week’s Game of Thrones season finale ended with a scene full of racial imagery that seemed kind of messed up. But actually, argues comedian Aamer Rahman, Daenerys’ whole storyline has been problematic from the very beginning. Here’s why. Her whole storyline went out the window for me when after being raped repeatedly by her husband she turned to a seemingly un-scarred victim of child prostitution to show her the “ways of love”. She then had her Jenna Maroney moment deciding to control her rapist with her sexuality. Yes, that ALWAYS works at giving someone power (in tv anyways). Her now being given the role of great white liberator is no surprise. When people argue she is powerful, I argue she is based on horrible misconceptions. Not to mention the way the camera creepily lingers on her 15 yr old body (her age in the show) while she is molested by her brother and raped by her husband. Even as an avid scifi/fantasy fan, I do not get why the show is so popular. Ok mini rant over! :)

Been trying to catch my breath since the cons ended… but I’ll just say that Denver Con was awesome. I really enjoyed exhibiting in artist alley & will be back next year. I LOVE the large amount of indie artists w/ original content in the alley. I’ve been describing it to people as the Emerald Con of the Rockies :) I also love, love, love that you have a kids area - that’s completely lacking in most cons. There were some bumps this year but I would say it was a HUGE leap from last year. Well Done Denver Comic Con! My only suggestion (for this con and most cons) is that it would be great to include a “adult” or “Rated R” area for all the T&A artwork and booth models of that type. I know that separation is unconventional for cons but it seems warranted given the strange mix of young children and soft core that cons have become. The prevailing mix in conventional comic conventions is a little creepy. That’s not a reflection on DCC in particular but of comic cons in general. I would suggest DCC for those looking to widen their fan base in a super friendly town :)
